There are lots of cool apps out there, but as a cruiser, I use three all the time. What’s great about them is they provide you with tons of info at your fingertips, that can be accessed without an internet connection. In other words, while you’re in the air flying to and/or from Alaska, Seattle, Vancouver, or San Francisco, information is still accessible.
With internet connection, you’ll be able to use the GPS for the maps and click on links for more information. Without further ado, here are the three cool apps I think every cruiser should have on their phone.
TripIt This free app organizes your trip details into one itinerary.
Say, you book your Alaska cruise with us, then you arrange your hotel and air own, everything will be together in your app as one complete itinerary. You won’t have to print anything because it includes everything you would think you need: web addresses, contact email and phone numbers, physical address, booking number, rate at which you paid, etc.
How it works: Forward your travel plans to firstname.lastname@example.org OR Have Tripit auto-import from your Gmail or Google Apps email inbox.
It will sync to your calendar too, so you have it on your phone! The basic features are free, but the TripIt Pro version $48.99 per year offers:
- Flight Status Alerts
- Check-in Reminders
- Alternate Flights of the same destination
- Loyalty-Program Rewards Points Tracking
- Fare Refund Monitoring
- VIP Perks: 1 year membership to Hertz #1 Club Gold and access to 1,100 business lounges worldwide with Regus Gold.
Pocket Travel Consultant Carry all of the destination information you need while traveling, right in your pocket!
To sign up, an invitation must be sent from a Signature Travel Network affiliated travel professional (such as CruiseExperts Travel). Then you’ll gain access to all the information about cities you are visiting before you leave. Even better, once you download a city guide you won’t need an internet connection to find the best restaurants, exciting things to do and local attractions. Pocket Travel Consultant s not available on Blackberry.
Ship Mate Everything you would want or need to know about a cruise line and ships is in this free app.
Deck plans, web cams, ship information, roll calls, and even a ship tracker. Includes info on the following lines:
- Holland America
- Royal Caribbean
If you have any questions concerning any of these apps, I’d be happy to answer. Just leave your question in the comment box.
